Dear Parishioners,

It’s the Little Things That Count

It is wonderful to shoot for the stars or go for the gold. In fact, that desire to win is the fuel that allows us to achieve our dreams. But sometimes, we have to step back and remember that “how” we go about achieving the goal is as important, or more important, than achieving the goal itself.

In the Gospel, we hear Jesus say: “The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones.” Every opportunity that is placed before us, regardless of its visibility or its impact, is given to us for a reason. That reason may not be to provide us with recognition or accolades. Only God knows the “why.” Only God knows what He will be looking for in our response to the opportunity He gave us.

So what can we do? We have to do our best in all we undertake. Take each job or each challenge that we face and address it as if it were the most important job in the world. We have a God who doesn’t just look at the end result — He looks at how we used the gifts He gave us. He doesn’t measure success by the importance of the project, but rather by the sincerity of the effort.

Vincent Van Gogh said the following: “Doing little things well is a step toward doing big things better.”

The Gospel also says: “You cannot serve two masters.” So let’s serve the master that sees the good work that no one else can see.

Sincerely in Christ,
