Dear Parishioners,

Things are not always what they seem to be. One of the challenges we face in our faith is not understanding the depth of God’s love. We all know God created the universe, and within, He created man and woman. We all know that He made it absolutely perfect so Adam and Eve could be eternally happy and share in God’s love.

But unfortunately, Adam and Eve didn’t see it that way. They looked at the paradise that was given to them as “limiting.” Where did they get this idea? Well, the serpent told them that if they eat from the fruit of the forbidden tree, they would be as wise as God. The truth of the matter is that Adam and Eve’s “eyes” were what limited them from understanding the magnitude of God’s love.

So, too, in the Gospel this week, the people asked Jesus a tricky question. If a man dies leaving his wife childless and his brothers each marry her and also leave her childless, whose wife will she be in the Kingdom? The people of the day were looking through eyes that were limited in their capacity to understand the mystery of God. Life with God will be something none of them could imagine. They may not have been giving God enough  credit. God who created all things out of love, has perfectly worked out what the promised paradise in heaven holds for all of us. That paradise is not limited by our understanding of life on this earth.

Pretty amazing to think all we have to do is trust God in this life, and let Him take care of us in the next.

Sincerely in Christ,

Father Lito
