Dear Parishioners,

God Will Always Have Our Backs

God gave Adam and Eve only one rule — don’t eat the fruit from the tree in the center of the garden. Seems simple enough. But Adam and Eve could not resist temptation, and they broke the one and only rule God gave them. Although God must have been quite disappointed in them, He gave them a second chance. He banished them from the garden, but He never left them.

As time went on, the world got more complicated.  The growing number of people resulted in more  complex problems and relationships. Many people turned away from the one true God. But God still had their backs. He sent good men and women to guide the people back to Him. When God called Moses to the top of Mount Sinai, He gave him ten rules to live by. These ten rules, if obeyed, would allow people to become what God intended them to be. But the people seemed to wander from these rules, too.

Finally, God sent Jesus -– a living example of love and goodness. Jesus taught the people how God wants them to live. It took God sending His only son to get the people to live as God’s chosen race. God had our backs.

But Jesus was not destined to stay on earth forever. Once He returned to His father in heaven, God knew His presence would be needed in yet another way. God sent us the Holy Spirit to live deep within us and help us discern right from wrong, good from evil. With the Holy Spirit as our Advocate, God had our backs.

God’s message throughout time has been so consistent, and Jesus reminds us in this gospel:

  • I am in the Father and you are in me and I in you;
  • Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me;
  • Whoever loves me will be loved by my Father and I will love him and reveal myself to him.

God is always true to His words — it is just up to us to trust in the God that will always have our backs.

Sincerely in Christ,

Father Lito
