Dear Parishioners,
Ever notice that God always knows when we need some type of sign or experience that lets us know He is there? Peter, James and John probably didn’t know they would need to see what Jesus was about to show them when they followed Him up the mountain, but that’s the way God works. He knows what we need before we know what we need!!
When they reached the top, Jesus’s appearance changed. He was glowing!! If that didn’t convince them they were being taken from the confines of this earth, the appearance of Moses and Elijah surely would! There they were, in the presence of their ancestors and yet Jesus with His transfigured body united all three of them! What a sight!
Peter wanted to capture this moment for all time but clearly that was not God’s plan. God wanted to give the promise of what was to come. Even though this vision was almost too good to be true, it got even better. These three apostles were given the privilege of hearing the voice of God proclaiming Jesus as His son. It doesn’t get much better than that!!
But then Jesus had to bring them back to reality. He tells them not to disclose what they witnessed until He is raised from the dead. Their elated state now had a element of confusion. Jesus knew the apostles had a long road ahead of them. Life was going to be very hard for them once He went back to His Father in heaven. He knew He had to give them something that would keep them hopeful of things to come despite the hardships they were going to endure.
God knows what we need— because He knows what every minute of our future holds. We don’t have to worry about that. He can and will prepare us for what is to come in a way that only He can do.
Sincerely in Christ,
Father Lito
