Dear Parishioners,

STAFFING UP

"The Harvest is abundant but the laborers are few so ask the Master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.”

The needs of the people were great. More and more people needed to be guided back to the Father. Jesus may have felt what many of us feel so often — “overwhelmed.” But that feeling of being overwhelmed merely catalyzed His desire to do the will of His Father.  Jesus knew He had to be properly staffed not only to accomplish the mission at hand, but to carry on the mission when He returned to the Father.

If you were in Jesus’s shoes today, you might consider reaching out to a reliable recruiting firm to start screening candidates to add to your staff!!  But Jesus had His own screening technique. He had very specific requirements. They needed no experience, no character references nor list of accomplishments. Jesus wanted men with the heart for the job.

Jesus must have known that nearly all of His apostles would abandon Him in His hour of need, yet He never lost faith in them. He knew that when the time came for them to step up, they would rise to the occasion. Jesus had to trust in their potential to listen to His instructions and deliver.

The fact that Jesus placed His trust in them must have been what drew them back after His resurrection.  The reports of His resurrection must have rekindled the fire that Jesus initially saw in them.  And when the Holy Spirit ignited that fire — that was all they needed to bring their mission home.

Just think how awesome it must be to have Jesus place that kind of faith in you. Well, He is doing it right now. Jesus has that same faith in all of us because He sees our hearts. We just have to trust His judgement and accept His plan. That’s all we need to accomplish the specific mission Jesus is asking each one of us to do!

Sincerely in Christ,

Father Lito
