A Special Note From Father Lito

My dear Parishioners,

When I discerned my vocation to become a priest, it was with the goal to be Christ for others – to serve, celebrate, console and support them. My priesthood has been filled with just such “graced” moments. Then, in 2016, when I became a Pastor, those priestly goals were brought into a new perspective. As Pastor, I now need to make organizational decisions that may not appear positive but are always with the greater good of St. Joseph Church in mind.

After several meetings with the Finance Council and our trustee about the financial situation of our parish, and relying on the report put together by our accountant, John McGovern, I need to inform you — or for some people, remind you — of some data points.  Our parish currently faces a $419,000 debt from the previous years’ unbalanced budgets. We have a payment plan with the Archdiocese to eliminate the debt in about five years. This year’s budget process, (for July 1) with our Finance Council, is currently projecting a $14,000 deficit (expenses greater than income). I hope that you agree that adding to our debt is not a fiscally healthy plan for St. Joseph.

I ask for your prayers as we continue to meet about the budget and try to increase donations or reduce expenses to balance the final budget due to the Archdiocese in September.  When one falls into a hole, he still has a choice —  break or bounce. And we are going to bounce, because we resolve to be a strong parish because we love St. Joseph Church.

  Sincerely in Christ,

 Father Lito
