Dear Parishioners,

For the weeks leading up to Christmas, we focused on preparing ourselves for the coming of Jesus. Part of our preparation was reflecting on “Mary’s yes.” Mary’s willingness to do God’s will set our salvation on a new path. The beautiful life that God had originally planned for us with the creation of the universe and of Adam and Eve was abruptly changed when Eve chose to disobey the will of God. Sin entered the world and separated humanity from God.

Despite the countless people that God chose to change the hearts of His people, none were able to redirect our course. God knew that the only path to true salvation had to come through the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus.  We are saved because of the divine mercy of God and obedient trust of Mary.

Mary became the instrument by which the divine entered into humanity. She helped to reset the path to salvation that God had in store for us. In a sense, she represents a “new beginning” for all of us. She is the “new Eve” who gave birth to the one who would bring about God’s perfect plan for us.

Mary’s unconditional “yes”  is a perpetual reminder of what it means to have total trust in God. She may have been afraid or anxious about what would happen next, but she put her faith in her God and she was able to fulfill the mission God ask her to do.

As we prepare to embark on a new year 2023, let us remember the trust of Mary that brought us our Savior. Let us move forward with that same unconditional trust in God’s love for us – a love that wants only what is best for us. It’s a new beginning – let it unfold with confident faith.

Sincerely in Christ,

Father Lito
