Dear Parishioners,

It is the Lord!!

The weeks after Jesus’s resurrection are filled with amazing accounts of how Jesus made Himself known to the people He loved.  Those “encounters” represent some of the most inspiring examples of how His disciples recognized Jesus, not by sight, but by words and actions that defined who Jesus truly is — the Messiah, the son of the living God.

This week’s gospel takes place on the sea of Tiberius.  The apostles, not quite sure where their lives were going, had returned to the familiar world of fishing.  Having fished all night without catching a single fish — they were ready to give up.  But out of nowhere, came a voice of hope.  “Cast the net over the right side of the boat and you will find something.”  And sure enough — they could not even pull in the nets due to the number of fish!!  In their moment of joy, John cried out, “It is the Lord!!!”

Jesus once again threw the apostles a life line. He gave them a glimpse of the abundant blessings that await those who follow Him. Jesus is waiting to rescue all of us from our sadness and our pain.  Just like the apostles, we may not immediately recognize the hand of God, but words of wisdom that someone imparts to us, acts of kindness that are totally unexpected — these are Jesus’s lifelines — we just need to recognize the rescuer.

Sincerely in Christ,

Father Lito
